If you’re anything like me, you require two tools to design a website—a mechanical pencil and a Field Notes graphed notebook. This was all fine and dandy until I read Zeldman’s Designing with Web Standards Third Edition and saw his funky graph paper on page 347. It’s absolutely perfect for sketching grid-based layouts. There is a double vertical line used for the grid and gutter margin. Then it hit me…
Let me start by saying I really love the idea of saving time when I design and develop a site—I use all kinds of time savers. Any well thought out system that results in cleaner, more maintainable, simpler code is definitely a good thing. Thusly, I’ve used CSS frameworks in the past to save time building layouts and creating grid-based, standards-compliant websites. So, why isn’t Blueprint (or any other CSS framework) a good idea?
I think sometimes it’s interest to show a behind-the-scenes on some projects. First it shows the serious thought goes into these fun projects and demonstrates techniques and principles that you may be able to use in your own work.
So, this is the cartoon I recently completed for Flipswap. Flipswap is a company that handles e-waste by giving you store credit (or cash) for your used cell phone.
The news on your company's website will very likely have few readers or none at all. This, of course, depends on a number of factors like: who your audience is, how popular or public your company is, or how exciting the news is (to everyone other than your or your co-workers).
But, there are ways to get your news in front of more people with little-to-no effort.
